Successful FGTC Debut: Expanding Across Scandinavia in 2026
The trophies have now been presented following a successful first season of the Formula GT Challenge. The finale at FDM Jyllandsringen in September featured an impressive grid of cars from Denmark and Sweden, and although all three races of the weekend were won by Sweden’s Carl Runefelt, it was Denmark’s Andreas Borris who secured the overall Trofeo Pirelli title in his Ferrari 296 Challenge. Runefelt followed up with a strong second place, while Sweden’s Christian Appelberg completed the championship podium.
Appelberg, however, claimed the title in the Coppa Formula class – the category for Ferrari 488 models – where fellow Swede Peter Hjelte and Denmark’s Per Falholt secured second and third place respectively in the final standings.
“Congratulations to the winners and to the other drivers who have earned trophies in this very first edition of the Formula GT Challenge. We have been delighted with the strong support from both competitors and spectators, and it has also been a pleasure to welcome new entrants during the season,” said Thor Qualmann, Race Executive at Formula Automobile.
The debut season of the Scandinavian GT series for racing cars from Maranello has generated significant interest in the Nordic motorsport community, with a total of 23 different race cars from both Denmark and Sweden taking to the track across the four rounds of the season.
The driver line-up has also featured a wide range of profiles – from experienced names such as Sweden’s Tommy Lindroth, who finished on the podium in last year’s official Ferrari Challenge Europe, to 26-year-old Danish talent Cecilie Nør-Jensen, who made her Formula GT Challenge debut at the season finale at FDM Jyllandsringen.
“Our ambition to build a strong community around Ferrari and racing has already been fulfilled. The atmosphere at the events has been extremely positive, and while the competition has been intense, there has always been mutual respect between the drivers,” added Thor Qualmann.
As the winners from the first season of the Formula GT Challenge prepare to be honored at an official awards ceremony early next year, planning for the 2026 calendar is already underway.
