Formula GT Challenge: New Ferrari championship ready for debut

If Ferrari and racing are your passion, Ring Knutstorp is the place to be this weekend. The southern Swedish circuit will host the debut of Formula GT Challenge – a brand-new Scandinavian one-make championship for race cars from Maranello.

Formula GT Challenge is promoted by Formula Automobile, the Scandinavian importer of Ferrari and Maserati. The championship consists of four rounds in 2025, with the upcoming weekend delivering a spectacular opening event featuring no fewer than two rounds over a single weekend. The provisional entry list includes close to 12 cars, primarily Ferrari 488 Challenge racers, from both Denmark and Sweden.

“We are very excited about the premiere of Formula GT Challenge. The core idea behind the championship is to create an attractive platform that allows both existing and future Scandinavian owners of Ferrari GT race cars to get on track in a format that combines enthusiasm and a strong sense of community,” says promoter and Race Coordinator, Chresten Hansen.

“Interest in taking part has been strong, and while we are fielding a competitive grid for the first two rounds, we expect even more entries for round three, which will be held during Grand Prix Danmark at FDM Jyllandsringen in August,” he adds.

Formula GT Challenge is aimed at amateur drivers, with each round consisting of practice, qualifying and a minimum of two sprint races. The series features its own dedicated paddock, with all cars gathered under one large tent, as well as private hospitality, enhancing the experience for drivers, sponsors and spectators alike.

“The ambition is to run a racing series that appeals to owners of both classic and modern Ferrari GT race cars, while also serving as a major attraction for the many Scandinavian motorsport fans. We are very much looking forward to getting the championship underway, and with the best weather forecast so far this spring, the conditions look ideal for a successful debut,” concludes Chresten Hansen.

The first two rounds of the 2025 Formula GT Challenge season begin with a free test day on Friday, May 16, followed by round one and round two, which will be contested with practice, qualifying and sprint races on Saturday, May 17, and Sunday, May 18 respectively.

This weekend, Formula GT Challenge runs alongside Historisk Motorsport Danmark, which will also be racing at Ring Knutstorp. Admission is free on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
