Successful Formula GT Challenge debut at Ring Knutstorp

The weather was perfect, and so was the atmosphere as Formula GT Challenge kicked off its debut season at Ring Knutstorp on May 17–18. The premiere of Scandinavia’s new GT championship for Ferrari race cars had all the right ingredients – and it ultimately proved to be a highly successful weekend, delivering plenty of entertaining racing.

“It was fantastic to finally get the championship underway, and we are very pleased with the execution of the first two rounds. A group of happy and motivated competitors lined up on the grid, and both practice, qualifying and racing unfolded with the right balance of passion, enthusiasm and a winning mentality,” says promoter and Race Coordinator at Formula Automobile, Chresten Hansen.

The opening Formula GT Challenge weekend featured two championship rounds as well as a Friday practice session, providing ample track time for the drivers, who travelled from both Sweden and Denmark. The standout performer was Andreas Borris, who won two of the weekend’s four races in his 488 Challenge car. However, the Dane was edged out on points by Sweden’s Christian Appelberg, who claimed one victory and added two further podium finishes to secure the early championship lead.

In keeping with the series concept, Formula GT Challenge at Ring Knutstorp presented its own dedicated paddock, with all race cars gathered under one large tent, as well as private hospitality. This helped create a distinctly international atmosphere for drivers, sponsors and race fans alike.

“The feedback from participants, guests and spectators suggests that Formula GT Challenge is a series that is here to stay, and we are already fully focused on preparations for the next round at FDM Jyllandsringen. We have received confirmations from new drivers, so we expect to present an even larger grid in August,” adds Chresten Hansen.

The third round of the Formula GT Challenge will take place as part of Denmark’s biggest motorsport event, Grand Prix Danmark, on August 22–24 at FDM Jyllandsringen.
